UnitingCare Werribee Support & Housing began in the early 80’s when congregation members of Crossroads Uniting Church and the Presbytery of Maribyrnong Valley became concerned about local youth homelessness.
We obtained a grant and established Werribee Youth Housing Inc. in 1985. Since then additional funding was secured for a range of support services and our name was changed to Werribee Support and Housing Inc.
In 2002 we became part of UnitingCare Victoria &Tasmania as UnitingCare Werribee Support & Housing (UCWS&H).
Over the years additional funding has enabled us to address identified needs in our rapidly expanding local community.
The volunteers at Care and Concern have been helping the needy in the local area for decades. After years of cooperation, Care and Concern became part of UCWS&H in 2005, since then it has been an integral part of our organisation.
As a part of the mission of the Uniting Church of Australia, UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing is committed to supporting individuals, families and the Wyndham community through advocacy and the provision of housing and support services. We express this commitment in the following Statement of Purpose:
We serve and empower our community through provision of support and housing services
Our Vision of the future is:
‘A strong and just local community’
Our contribution is to provide high quality housing and support services that promote individual, family and community well-being whilst advocating for a strong and just local community in collaboration with our community.
As an expression of the mission of the Uniting Church of Australia, we strive to address injustice. We seek to promote equity, human rights, participation and access for all.
We offer reconciliation and hope to individuals and families within the Wyndham community.
Our focus is on the vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community. We seek to build on people’s strengths and to enable people to speak and act for themselves.
We respect the contribution of all involved in our service, valuing diversity and promoting inclusiveness.
In seeking to provide the best possible service to others we value innovation and new ideas.
We seek partnerships with other organisations in service delivery and in advocacy within our community.
