The program provides placement and support for adolescents between the ages of 12 to 18 years and covers the areas of Wyndham, Hobsons Bay and parts of Maribyrnong.
The program provides care in emergency short or long term accommodation and support for young people. Young people are placed with carefully selected and trained care givers within the Community who have been recruited, assessed, trained and accredited through the ACP program.
Young people may need care for a range of reasons including family conflict and breakdown, lack of family supports, natural parents who suffer from mental or physical illness or drug and alcohol addiction or abuse and neglect. Many of the young people are traumatised and often experience social, health, educational and behavioural difficulties. Despite this, they all like having fun, they can be cheeky or moody and they have dreams for the future.
Bridges relies on people in the community to volunteer their homes and their time as foster carers. Our carers are recruited, trained, assessed through an accredited Adolescent Community Placement program and supported by program staff to provide a safe, secure and supportive home environment for our young people in care. To keep doing this, Bridges are looking to recruit all different types of families and households to take on this very important role.
Foster Carers provide short or long time care (depending on need) for adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years.
