The volunteers at Care and Concern have been helping the needy in the local area since the 1970's. After years of cooperation, Care and Concern became part of UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing in 2005.
Our Emergency Relief Programs and Opportunity Shop would not exist without the dedication and support provided by our volunteers. For many years these programs have provided the essential support required by Wyndham's most vulnerable families, and in more recent times, the fire victims from the 2009 Black Saturday.
Our Opportunity Shop operates from the front of Crossroads Uniting Church in Synnot Street on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 10.00-2.00pm.
All items are donated and sold to the public. Money from sales helps to support the Agencies Emergency Relief and other programs.
Donated items should be taken into the shop on their operating days.
Emergency Food Vouchers are provided to eligible clients Monday and Friday of each week. Clients need to attend the agency in the morning on the relevant day and produce their Centrelink benefit card and letter of assistance. Funding restricts the number of vouchers able to be given out each Monday and Friday. Clients may have up to 8 vouchers each financial year.
Clients who miss-out on a voucher can call into the office at 19 Duncan's Road for a food parcel. Due to the increasing demand for food, we have to limit the request to one per fortnight.
Clients may call into the Office any day Monday-Friday between 9.00-5.00pm (closed for lunch 12.30-1.00pm each day).
Clients of UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing are able to access the Furniture Program. Furniture items that are donated to the agency are delivered free of charge to clients. A range of furniture items are available from sofas, armchairs, beds, tables and chairs etc.
To make a donation, please contact our receptionist with the details.
A breakfast program that commences at 7.00am on Mondays and Fridays has been established to cater for the needs of our clients who queue for the vouchers.
During the winter months, from 7.00am, people are welcomed to come in to the Uniting Church Foyer in Synnot St for a warm drink and light breakfast. During the summer months clients are provided with a sausage BBQ outside the office at 19 Duncans Road, Werribee.
Clients who have specials needs and are unable to queue on Mondays and Fridays are encouraged to speak to a Snr. Worker.
Through the UnitingCare Share Appeal and The Wishing Tree at Target Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook, UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing receives Xmas gifts for children of local families who meet the criteria.
To find out further information or to access this program during the month of December, contact our reception to register details and make an appointment.
